The Best Teams in FIFA 16

10. Atlético Madrid

This marks the first year we included Atlético Madrid on a top 10 list, largely because of Fernando Torres playing up front and Jackson Martinez’s all-around game.  Martinez excels at bullying defenders and expertly sending crosses to Torres, who responds with impressive shots on goal. We expect Madrid to cause some damage against the imposing Spanish La Liga, so choose this club with confidence.

9. Juventus F.C.

The popular Italian club lacks elite strikers, but Juventus makes up for this in other areas, primarily in the defense and midfield. Center Paul Pogba has the uncanny ability to score whenever he wants over the midfield line, while defensive midfielder Sami Khedira, center back Giorgio Chiellini and goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon produce quality performances with each game. Bottom line, Juve is able to compete in the Italian Seria A and globally. Look no further than the team’s appearance in the 2015 Champions League final.

8. Arsenal F.C.

Arsenal is without question a quality club in FIFA, with center-mid Mesut Özil, Alexi Sanchez on the wing and one of the fastest players in football, Theo Walcott. The result is a dangerous offensive threat, made even more effective with the addition of goalie Petr Čech; expect him to keep scoring under control. Providing you quickly send the ball through open passing lanes, you will have opportunities to put the ball into the back of the net.

7. Borussia Dortmund

Behold, the first German team from the Bundesliga to crack our top 10! Funnel everything through midfielder Marco Reus, since his uncanny speed, ball control and versatility gives him a big advantage over the competition. If you need support, call upon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and midfielder İlkay Gündoğan. Now consider the famous Great Yellow Wall (over 25,000 diehard fans clad in yellow behind the goal), and your opponents will feel intimidated the moment they step onto the pitch.

6. Paris Saint-Germain F.C.

Zlatan Ibrahimović is one of the greatest players in football history, and his virtual FIFA 16 persona is no exception. Ibra’s amazing combination of precision shooting and size make him a difference maker. Should you run into trouble, fellow teammates like midfielders Di Maria and Cavani are more than capable of making some noise, while on the defense, Thiago Silver and David Luiz help lock down the opposing team.

5. Chelsea F.C.

If you select Chelsea, dominate the other team with Eden Hazard, but you have plenty of assets available. Cesc Fàbregas and Radamel Falcao (he’s on loan) make up an offense capable of scoring repeatedly. You also benefit from having one of the most underrated goalkeepers (all 6’6’’ of him), Thibaut Courtois, who does his best Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings impression (“You shall not pass!”). During games, use Chelsea’s physicality to overwhelm opponents on your way to a well-deserved victory.

4. Manchester City F.C.

Few teams in FIFA 16 are as stacked as Manchester City. Its captain, Yaya Touré, locks down the midfield. Meanwhile, superstar David Silva (with a crazy rating of 90), easily breaks free in search of open space. You will also see Kevin De Bruyne in the midfield, and Kun Agüero slips through the tightest defense. Basically, you can’t go wrong with Man City.

3. FC Barcelona

The NBA’s Miami Heat benefitted from a big three, and the same can be said of FC Barcelona. Except instead of LeBron, D. Wade and Chris Bosh, it’s Neymar, Messi and Suarez. These guys helped the club capture the Champions League. Oh yeah, and you also have arguably the greatest premier possession player in midfielder Andrés Iniesta. Combine this offensive juggernaut with quality defense, and losing with FC Barcelona means you only have yourself to blame.

2. FC Bayern Munich

One can make the argument that FC Bayern Munich is the most balanced team in FIFA 16, wrecking havoc in the competitive Bundesliga. Thomas Müller and Arturo Vidal anchor the finest defense, while wingers Frank Ribery, Arjen Robben and Robert Lewendowski give you plenty of options to score. Throw in the best goalie in football, Manuel Neuer, and you’ll be almost unstoppable. We say almost because you are human, after all.

1. Real Madrid F.C.

Superstar players take over games at will. Such is the case with Real Madrid, thanks to icons like Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo. This dynamic duo bring incredible ball handling, speed and finishing to the mix. On top of that, striker Kareem Benzema rarely misses the goal, and World Cup standout James Rodríguez zigzags across the midfield. Throw in names like Ramos, Marcelo and Modric, and you can win handily. Of course, your opponent will probably roll his or her eyes after seeing you pick the best team in FIFA 16.

Google: Our Self-Driving Cars Have Never Caused an Accident

Google says its self-driving cars have been involved in 11 minor accidents over the six years the project has been active, but none were the car's fault. The company's fleet of self-driving vehicles and team of safety drivers have collectively logged 1.7 million miles, Chris Urmson, director of Google's self-driving car program, said in a blog post Monday. Autonomous driving accounted for nearly a million of those miles. "Over the 6 years since we started the project, we've been involved in 11 minor accidents (light damage, no injuries) during those 1.7 million miles of autonomous and manual driving with our safety drivers behind the wheel, and not once was the self-driving car the cause of the accident," Urmson wrote.

Most of the accidents were crashes where the Google car was rear-ended. Google's self-driving cars have also been sideswiped a couple of times and hit by a vehicle that rolled through a stop sign. "Not only are we developing a good understanding of minor accident rates on suburban streets, we've also identified patterns of driver behavior (lane-drifting, red-light running) that are leading indicators of significant collisions," Urmson said. "Those behaviors don't ever show up in official statistics, but they create dangerous situations for everyone around them."

Urmson's post went up the same day that The Associated Press published a story stating that four self-driving cars — three from Google and one from Delphi Automotive — have gotten into accidents in California since the state began issuing permits in September.

Microsoft brings Android, iOS apps to Windows 10

SAN FRANCISCO—Microsoft announced a four-pronged effort to bring developers and their apps to Windows at its build conference today. One of these prongs—a way for Web developers to present their sites as apps—was already announced at Mobile World Congress earlier in the year.
The second prong is logical but not altogether surprising. In Windows 10, developers will be able to specially prepare existing Windows apps, whether Win32, .NET WinForms, .NET WPF, or any other Windows development technology, and sell them through the Windows Store. Unlike the "traditional" Windows application installation experience, these apps will be guaranteed to install, update, and uninstall cleanly—one of the important things that Store apps do to ensure that users feel confident trying apps out and removing them if they don't like them. Behind the scenes, virtualization technology will be used to provide this isolation and robustness.

Islandwood and Astoria

The next two prongs are the more surprising: Microsoft is going after Android and iOS developers. With Project Islandwood, iOS developers will be able to take their iOS apps and build them for Windows. Microsoft has developed an Objective C toolchain and middleware layer that provide the operating system APIs that iOS apps expect. A select group of third parties have been using the Islandwood tools already, with King's Candy Crush Saga for Windows Phone being one of the first apps built this way. King's developers had to change only a "few percent" of the code in order to fully port it to Windows Phone.
For Android, there is Project Astoria. Rumors of Android apps on Windows have been floating around for some time, and in Windows 10 Microsoft is delivering on those rumors. Astoria will allow Android apps to run in Windows. Specifically, Windows Mobile (and yes, that's now officially the name for Windows on phones and sub-8 inch tablets) will include an Android runtime layer that'll let them run existing Android apps (both Java and C++) unmodified. Unlike Islandwood, which will require developers themselves to recompile their software to bring it to Windows, Astoria will in principle work with any old APK, without requiring the developer to do anything but publish the app in the store—as long as the APK sticks to the APIs that Astoria will provide.
As we've written before, there are two aspects to Android: there is the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) that's a mix of GPL and BSD-licensed open source code that anyone can take and fork, and there's Google Mobile Services (GMS), an ever expanding closed-source set of applications and APIs that Google develops. Applications that need GMS, for example for its geolocation capabilities or its in-app purchasing, will not run on a plain AOSP platform. They'll need GMS.
When we spoke to Microsoft about Astoria, the company would not tell us what proportion of the AOSP and GMS APIs would be supported, but it did confirm that it wouldn't be 100 percent; there will be APIs that Astoria does not provide, and accordingly, APKs that use those APIs will not run.
On the flip side, Astoria will offer some integration points with Windows so that Android devs can, with minor alterations, support features like Cortana in their apps.
The broader theme of Microsoft's work is to make Windows 10 the platform for developers. It will give them one app platform that spans phone, tablet, PC, hybrid, and console, and thanks to the free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8 users, it should be much less fragmented than Windows in the past. The company has the incredibly ambitious goal of having 1 billion users on the Windows 10 family within 2-3 years of launch.
The underlying strategy behind the four bridges is to allow developers to use the code they already have. Microsoft's intent isn't to make a BlackBerry 10-style capitulation, where the answer to the app gap is "just use Android apps instead." Rather, the hope is that developers will still make Windows apps; they'll just be Windows apps that happen to share a ton of code with iOS or Android apps.

Robot Chef That Can Cook 2,000 Meals Set To Go On Sale In 2017

After a long, drawn out day in the office, it’s not always easy to motivate yourself to cook a
proper meal when you get home. Instead of reaching for the saucepan, many opt for the quicker and easier option of take-out or ready meals, many of which are not exactly healthy or particularly nutritious. But what if you could have a handy robotic assistant in the kitchen, ready to whip you up a gourmet meal whenever you so desire? That’s the dream of Moley Robotics, a London-based company that has developed a prototype “robochef” designed for the home.

Unveiled today at Germany’s Hannover Messe technology fair, the machine consists of two remarkably dexterous robotic arms installed atop a cooking area, complete with hobs, a sink and an oven. The robot’s sophisticated and fully articulated hands were created by Shadow Robot Company, another London-based firm, whose products are used all over the world, including by NASA.

Rather than cooking like a machine, the system works by first recording human actions in 3D and then converting these into highly precise movements. The prototype was trained by chef Tim Anderson, who spent time whipping up original dishes in a motion-capture studio. During a demonstration, Anderson had the robot make a crab bisque, but he told BBC News it can do anything from a bit of prep to completing an entire dish.

According to Moley’s website, the firm hopes to bring a consumer version to market by 2017 that will feature several additions, including a library of thousands of recipes, a dishwasher and a refrigerator. This means you not only won’t have to cook or prep for yourself if you can’t be bothered, but you don’t even need to wash up afterward. Marvelous. You will even be able to control it remotely using an app, which means you could order your dish to be ready for when you get home.

Eventually, Moley hopes to produce a version complete with cameras so that users can teach it to create their own dishes, which can then be uploaded to a digital recipe library and shared with other people. They also want later models to be capable of dealing with tricky things like stopping mixing at the appropriate time to prevent splitting or over-beating.

“Something would change; we would see it in the sensor data. Maybe something gets stiffer or softer,” Shadow’s Rich Walker explains to BBC News. “We should be able to sense that and use it as the point to transition to the next stage of the cooking process.”

Of course, such sophisticated technology won’t come cheap, and will set you back close to $15,000 (£10,000), but hopefully the price will go down over time as with any new technology.

Withings Activité activity trackers are beautiful, but limited

Withings’ Activité and Activité Pop used to only work with iOS devices, but now the company has finally introduced an Android version of its Health Mate app. As such, the company’s smart, fitness-tracking watches will now sync easily with Android smartphones.
Withings’ Health Mate app connects with either the Activité or Activité Pop via Bluetooth Low Energy. Once the watch syncs with the app, you can view your sleep metrics, activity, and set a vibrating alarm. The Health Mate app will show you your activity and sleeping patterns over time in handy graphs, too. The app will even track your weight, heart rate, and more if you enter the data, or happen to own Withings’ smart scale, sleeping system, and heart rate monitor as well.
When they first arrived on the market, the Withings’ Activité and Activité Pop were widely regarded as two of the most beautiful fitness-trackers around. Both feature a traditional wrist watch look. The original Activité is much more premium with its Swiss-made branding, real leather strap, polished stainless steel case, and sapphire watch face. However, it’s major downfall is its high $450 price.

Meanwhile, the Actvité Pop has all the same features, but it’s made with less high-end materials. The best part about the Pop is its low, $150 price tag. Now, both iOS and Android users can flock to Withings for attractive fitness trackers that look deceptively like high-end wristwatches.
You can download the Android version of the app on the Google Play Store and check out the Withings watches on their website.

Microsoft's 'Redstone': An update to Windows 10 due in 2016

Microsoft hasn't even released Windows 10 to the general public yet, and the company is already talking about updates. According to a report from Neowin, Microsoft is preparing a series of updates codenamed 'Redstone' that will hit various devices in June and October 2016.
Like with Windows 10 itself, Redstone updates will be delivered to Windows Insiders ahead of their final release, giving enthusiasts a chance to trial the changes and notify Microsoft of any issues.
Microsoft isn't saying what features will be included in Redstone updates, as they build upon what Microsoft will deliver in Windows 10. The company is now hard at work fixing bugs and polishing features for the Windows 10 release, so any extra functionality that was planned, but didn't make it to the final release, will likely end up in Redstone.
It's also worth mentioning that Redstone is not the next version of Windows, but instead an update in the same mold as Windows 8.1 (codenamed 'Blue'). Redstone will target a whole range of devices and products, including Xbox, Surface Hub, HoloLens, Band, Office and smartphones.

In the meantime, Microsoft will release monthly updates to Windows 10 that include bug fixes, minor tweaks and small additions. The operating system is set to be released to the general public this summer.

Turn Off Your Android Phone Remotely

Why would you want to turn off your Android phone remotely,” you may ask? Well, there’s no set reason justifying such an action. However, possible reasons may include wanting to turn off your phone if it’s been locked in the office or your friend’s car for the night to conserve battery to last you through the next day, turning off your friend’s phone for fun, or simply for the novelty. Well, XDA Senior Member RavinduSha came out with an app called Remote Turn Off on the XDA Forums.
Remote Turn Off is a simple app, allowing users to remotely shut down the phone with the app installed. Requiring root access, the installation process consists simply flashing the provided zip file or moving the APK from the ZIP file to the /system/app folder manually and setting the correct permissions. To turn off the phone, users must text the phone number ‘power#off,’ with the first run requiring a permanent grant to root access by the app. The phone can be shut down with a text message from any phone number, however the shutdown code cannot be changed. There’s also no app icon in the app drawer, as not to add to the already cluttered and disorganized app drawer many users have.Remote Turn Off provides a function that may be useful for many users, but lethal if the code falls into the wrong hands, especially ‘pranktious’ friends. Originally developed for personal use, RavinduSha has made ‘Remote Turn Off’ available to all users for free. So if you would like to install this onto your phone, or your friend’s phone, remotely, for more details and download click here.

Motorola new watch ‘Smelt’ could be a Moto 360 followup

Even though the Moto 360 was late out the gate compared to Android Wear devices like the Samsung Gear Live or LG G Watch, it’s still considered a first gen Android Wear device. While there’s a lot that we loved about the Moto 360 — as mentioned in our review — it did come with its fair share of shortcomings and thus, there was still plenty of room for improvement in a followup.

With OEMs introducing quality watch designs with solid aluminum builds, the Moto 360 is no longer the only fashionable — or most durable — Android Wear device on the market. We got a sneak peek at what Motorola could have planned for a Moto 360 followup after a Lenovo CEO posted an image to social media of what appeared to be an all new smartwatch housed inside a soft briefcase (Lenovo bought Motorola last year for $2.91 billion). Other than that brief look, not much else is known. That is, until today.

Please Click on the Advertisements to support the blog!

We received a tip from a popular app developer who recently noticed a mysterious Motorola-built Android Wear device pinging his Android developer console from Mundelein, a city not too far from Motorola’s HQ in Chicago, Illinois. The device is carrying the codename “Smelt” and is reportedly running Android 5.1. On the hardware front, it carries a screen resolution of 360 x 360 and is powered by an “armeabi-v7a.”

While we’re not too familiar with the word “smelt” outside the context “whoever smelt it, dealt it,” Webster’s also defines it as a “small silvery fish.” Makes sense given the original Moto 360 went by the codename “Minnow.”

Currently, Motorola’s only Android Wear device is the Moto 360 and only makes sense that this mysterious “Smelt” could be their replacement/sequel/followup for 2015. If that previous leak is anything to go by, we could be looking at a device that’s even more premium or luxurious than last year’s Moto 360.

At the very least, we’re hoping it’ll be better built as the plastic back on ours has already begun cracking. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for details.
